I was just watching the news and this is a story here in Jacksonville.

"A Jacksonville church's website is causing quite a stir on it's stance on same sex marriage.

It's created a website where all the names of the people signing the Florida marriage protection amendment are publicly displayed.

That amendment would have defined marriage as the union between a man and a woman.

A local gay-friendly church is holding a press conference to respond to the national media coverage over the publishing of names of people who signed the anti-family marriage protection amendment in Florida.

Christ Church of Peace, a congregation of less than 200 members in Jacksonville, Fla., has become the David to the Goliath petition supporters in the discussion on equal civil and political rights for all the citizens of Florida.

Of the 611,009 signatures necessary to place the amendment on the November 2006 ballot, only 455,363 were gathered by the February 1, 2006, deadline. However, the group sponsoring the petition initiative, florida4marriage.org, continues in its efforts to obtain the additional signatures needed to place the issue before voters in 2008.

The church's website is causing a stir in Jacksonville, as it lists all the names of people who've signed a petition in favor of banning same-sex marriages in Florida.

The website was launched last Monday by the Christ Church of Peace in Riverside. Church leaders say the website isn't meant to target or intimidate people whose names are on it. They say it's just a way for their congregation to reach out to those they may know on the list and talk about the issues.

Reverend Gary DeBusk says, "We felt that it was time that another side of the Christian voice is heard, the more progressive side that's about Christ’s love for all people. I would hope what we're doing would help fair minded Floridians to really think through and even if they have problems with gays, this isn't a gay issue, this isn't an equality issue, it's a civil rights issue."

MY THOUGHTS

It irritates me that the news media is calling this initiative anti-family. It sounds to me that it is anything but. It irritates me that people that call themselves Christians and are for gay marriage is that not oxymoronic? However more and more churches are going that way so they can appeal to more people.. and ultimately more people comes more money and isn't the love of money the root to all evil... to you see where I am going with this? How can a "Christian church" go directly against the bible they say they believe in... they must only believe some of the bible and just ignore the other parts of the bible. So these churches/denominations that are doing this I believe, are confusing the public on what Christianity is all about.

AFTERTHOUGHTS

Check out this website http://florida4marriage.org/ and please sign and send in the petition to keep marriage in Florida only between a man and a woman. I know that this world is going to hell, but at least we can try to make it better until the roll is called up yonder!
